New York has a huge year in venture financing

2014 was a huge year for NYC's startup community, with over $4B poured into the city's tech scene. Consumer internet companies still represent the majority of the pie, but fintech scored one of the largest deals with OnDeck's $77M Series E prior to its blockbuster IPO.

Venture capital investment in New York ballooned in 2014, rising 53% year-over-year on 7% more deals. No one quarter drove the funding jump with NY seeing steady and strong performance throughout the year. Each of the last 3 quarters in 2014 saw venture investors put $1B or more into New York-based companies highlighting what appears to be a new normal in NY.
