NYC's bitcoin cop, Benjamin Lawsky, who became one of Wall Street’s toughest critics, is leaving government to start his own law and consulting firm. He announced his departure on the day the Department of Justice announced its $5.6bn settlement with 6 global banks
The announcement of his departure came on the day that DFS, along with the Department of Justice and other agencies, announced a $5.6bn settlement with six global banks over allegations they rigged foreign exchange markets. “I am deeply proud of the work our team has done building this new agency and helping strengthen oversight of the financial markets,” Mr Lawsky said in a statement. “We have assembled a great team at NYDFS and I have full confidence that the critical work of this agency will continue seamlessly.”
