Barclays and the bitcoin startup, Safello, will build a program that allows charities to accept bitcoin. Safello went through Barclays Techstars accelerator program in London over the summer. Safello has raised about $1m from names such as Barry Silbert, Erik Voorhees and Roger Ver – as well as angel investors and crowdfunding.
Barclays is working with a startup to run a pilot program testing bitcoin as a payment system, the latest in a long string of forays by Wall Street firms looking at the digital currency and the technology behind it.
