The Panama Papers have been the main focus of this week's headlines, with Prime Ministers, pro athletes and bank robbers all using similar structures (and the same law firm) to store their wealth, whether illicitly gained or not, in offshore entities.
But, as the FT shows, you don't have to be politically powerful, athletically talented or even particularly wealthy to set up such structures.
My offshore empire was built from my kitchen, on my own, with just a few thousand pounds and Emily for help. I can only imagine what kinds of opaque and impenetrable structures could be created by those with the financial means large enough to be employing companies such as Mossack Fonseca.
