Student Lender CommonBond Raises $50M To Invest In Technology, Blockchain

NYC based online student lending platform has raised a $50m Series D led by Fifth Third Bank.

“We will likely start investing in blockchain and heavily leveraging it as a tool to make our operations more efficient and to make our data more secure,” Klein says. This may be welcome news to the 44.2 million Americans who collectively have more than $1.48 trillion in student loan debt, Student Loan Hero estimates. CommonBond offers five-year, fixed-rate refinancing ranging from 3.18% to 5.65% (with no origination fees), and five-year, fixed-rate original undergraduate and graduate loans with rates ranging from about 5% to 8% (with a 2% origination fee).
