2019 has been a popular year for Venture-backed tech IPOs, with many much-awaited "unicorns" going public, but this hasn't been the case for FinTechs. The top 10 most valuable FinTech companies worldwide, each with multi-billion dollar valuations, yet none seem particularly close to going public. The highly-regulated environment has meant slower growth for many companies, and the most successful FinTechs are focused on growth to challenge incumbents.
While formerly PE-backed Tradeweb stands out as a strong fintech IPO exception this year—up about 67% from its April debut—it remains unclear when, or if, we'll see new venture-backed entrants come to market.
