Bank of America recently filed a patent "Real-time net settlement by distributed ledger system," which explicitly cites a “refunded ripple settlement.” It is unclear if the lowercase "ripple" refers to Ripple, the real-time settlement system, but it is clear that Ripple's proposed settlement asset "XRP" is not part of Bank of America's plans.

Bank of America cites 'ripple' in recent patent filing
The patent in question — the application of which was published on June 6 — describes a system using distributed ledger technology (DLT) as an interbank communication tool. The proposed system would enable real-time settlement with transactions being communicated through a shared, decentralized ledger to which both the banks would have access.
