The Swedish business said 5m consumers are on the waitlist for the Visa-powered Klarna card, which offers customers real-time transfers and deposits alongside the firm’s buy-now-pay-later credit options.
Klarna has been growing fast in the US, where its partners include Walmart Inc. Yet the firm faces competition — this week San Francisco-based Chime Financial Inc. set terms for its initial public offering, and has 8.6 million active users in the US. Meanwhile, rival Revolut is pursuing growth in Klarna’s backyard in Sweden.
