Alipay has grown into a dominant payment method among Chinese consumers, handling about half of all online transactions in China, reports Reuters.
While it is not currently impossible to pay with Alipay on a U.S. site, it is not seamless and often involves bouncing between sites, a feature that is particularly inconvenient if consumers want to shop online from their mobile phone.
Online payment service Stripe wants to make it easier for merchants to sell goods and services to the country with the world’s largest Internet population. Using Stripe’s payment software, merchants can now detect if a shopper is located in mainland China and give them the option of paying with their account on Alipay, the Alibaba-owned service with more than 300 million users,
