A New Kind of Financial Culture is Brewing in Latin America

It is staggering to think that with the explosion of mobile devices the majority of the world will experience the internet for the first time through a smartphone, not a desktop!! The desktop experience we know, will be foreign to most people.

In Latin America, 250 Million people live without sufficient financial services or any at all.  And those that are banked use their bank account as a cash-collection tool  - not for savings. They are so new to finance that they do not know how to use the existing financial system. But 54% of smartphone users in Latin America have purchased a product or service with their smartphones. Latin America also has one of the most active audiences for messaging apps like WeChat and WhatsApp. Download rates for messaging apps hit four-digit percentage gains, and active use is high (61% have used WhatsApp in the last month).  The real, eye-widening statistic is that 97.5% use social media.
