Winklevoss Twins Win Approval to Open Bitcoin Exchange

After a long buildup, Cameron and Tyler Winkelvoss have won the approval from the New York State Department of Financial Services to open Gemini, a Bitcoin exchange. The twins are notorious for their legal battle with Mark Zuckerberg over proper ownership over the original Facebook idea. They have been vocal about working with regulators, rather than challenging authorities, as they try to build out Gemini.

But like many people, the Winklevoss twins still believe in bitcoin—strongly. This morning, they unveiled their own bitcoin exchange, dubbed Gemini, after New York’s financial regulator approved the service for use in the state. The exchange will officially open its doors on Thursday morning. 'You have to get regulation right. You have to have a dialogue.' TYLER WINKLEVOSS
