Aussie start-up Data Republic are now actively tackling the concept of "data control", where contributors of data have full control of what data gets exchanged, oversight of its use, and legal rights to protect against its misuse.
To flourish in the digital economy, companies know they must turn business transactions into customer relationships, which requires personalisation. But in order to better target offerings to customers, companies, such as big banks and retailers, require more data than they individually possess. This calls for the exchange of data on particular customers – which is conducted on an ad-hoc basis and is typically governed by complex and costly individual legal contracts.
