“Adviser” is being used too loosely by folks launching ICOs, in some cases adding people with no connection to the firm.
According to its website, Smartlands is a Cyprus-registered startup with a team that includes a variety of people from different parts of Europe. Among people listed as advisers on the website are Clive Blacker, a director of U.K. agricultural technology company Precision Systems. But Mr. Blacker said he has never had any dealings with the company and wasn’t aware he had been named an adviser until he was contacted by a reporter for The Information.
