Property Data Firm Xceligent Files for Chapter 7 Protection

Xceligent, one of the largest commercial real-estate data firms in the U.S., has filed for chapter 7 liquidation following a year-long legal battle with rival CoStar Group over alleged data theft

CoStar and Xceligent had been in advanced talks to settle their legal dispute last week. But the discussions broke down partly over CoStar’s insistence that Xceligent agree to such steps as deleting certain material from its database, according to people familiar with the matter. What isn’t clear is whether or not Daily Mail faces any exposure from the litigation. In its latest discovery requests, CoStar named Daily Mail executives, indicating it was redirecting its legal strategy to focus more on the parent company and its portfolio companies.
