Bitcoin reaches major milestone as users adopt upgrade

Segwit, the upgrade meant to lower the work and speed up the process to confirm transactions off the main chain, is now involved in more than 30% of transactions as major crypto-exchanges such as Coinbase and Bitfinex have adopted.  Transaction fees which climbed as high as $55 in December during peak crypto frenzy have now dropped to a low $2.

Transaction fees have dropped to a four-month low of $2, though confirmed transactions per day have also dropped to around 200,000 from more than double that number in December.
