The virtual bank uses Thought Machine’s core banking system and was created in partnership with Hong Kong Telecoms and Chinese travel agency Trip.com, who was among the first to be granted one of Hong Kong’s new digital bank licenses by the Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA).
Standard Chartered’s group CEO, Bill Winters, says the launch shows “the pace at which Standard Chartered is executing and moving on its strategic objectives”. He adds: “We’re now combining our heritage as the oldest note issuing bank in Hong Kong with being the newest virtual bank in the city.”
