The International Organization for Standardization, which sets standards for payment transactions, has approved the creation of a special code for gun stores to use when processing credit or debit card transactions. Visa and Mastercard had resisted the code but said they will adopt it.
"Following ISO's decision to establish a new merchant category code, Visa will proceed with next steps, while ensuring we protect all legal commerce on the Visa network in accordance with our long-standing rules," the payment processor said in a statement.
