Treasury proposes anti-money laundering framework for stablecoin issuers

The proposed rule requires permitted payment stablecoin issuers to maintain AML/CFT and sanctions programs, report suspicious activity, and ensure technical systems meet legal and regulatory requirements.

“This proposal will protect the U.S. financial system from national security threats without hindering American companies’ ability to forge ahead in the payment stablecoin ecosystem,” said Treasury Secretary Scott Bessen.
