Visa purchased Tink, a European bank account connection platform, in a move that highlights their willingness to keep up with open banking. This acquisition comes after antitrust regulators blocked Visa's planned acquisition of Plaid in the United States.
“These open banking initiatives are gaining maturity and momentum very quickly and they are going to become a real alternative to the card infrastructure and the card networks,” said Hiroko Takeuchi, founder of GoCardless, a bank debt payments provider which works outside of card networks.
