The digital bank for the unbanked that currently touts nearly 8.5m customers has announced its international expansion with the start of its operation in Mexico. Nubank was attracted by the similarities between Brazil and Mexico, with nearly 36m Mexicans without a bank account.
Over the last few years, company has been focusing on attracting international staff and has 25 nationalities working at its São Paulo headquarters. However, Vélez has also talked about how finding English-speaking Brazilians to work for Nubank is another challenge as the company expands. "Our main language at Nubank is English, and although we encourage foreigners to learn to speak Portuguese, it is also important that our employees understand the tendency for the company to become increasingly global," Vélez pointed out.
