This year Asset Managers have bought stakes in ESG businesses, created internal ratings tools and hired specialists to gain a foothold in environmental, social and governance investing as their clients demand that their money is used to do good as well as to generate returns.
“We are seeing more and more clients looking to have a social impact beyond just purely financial returns with their investments. The mood music is changing,” says Peter Harrison, chief executive of Schroders. The rising influence of millennial investors — those born between the early 1980s and early 2000s — is helping accelerate the trend for sustainable investments.
