While the classical scenario of AI running rampant and overtaking the world to protect us from ourselves is still how most people would summarize the dangers of AI, in reality, it’s far more insidious and can be summarized in a single word: bias. If AI is biased, whether it takes the shape of gender, race, culture or malicious intent, the result is a system that doesn’t have a complete handle on reality — a system that poses a risk to the world it interacts with.
