“DeFi started serving people who were traditionally underserved, that banks don't care about, or people who have made a lot of money in crypto—neither of which banks are interested in servicing correctly,” says Lippel. “But eventually, we're gonna move into more use cases. Institutional finance is probably better served by using something like smart contracts, repo markets on a blockchain are better, faster, cheaper.”
