Mr Flint said that the regulatory burden on the bank had “fatigued” certain areas of HSBC’s workforce, who were working on weekends to deal with the number of reviews and tests being carried out by regulators. “One of the most obvious points about the fatigue is there are only 52 weekends in the year when you have to do system changes and find a gap for testing, there’s only a certain amount of time to do that,” he said, adding that the compliance workload is “unprecedented”.
