Why copy & paste isn't the best product strategy for emerging markets

Some great examples of how glossing over the cultural differences between regions can cost you big.

This is not to say that digital products or services can never be transposed between developed and emerging markets. There are some good examples of where what seems like a ‘copy and paste’ approach has worked, such as Wikipedia, or even Microsoft Windows. However, to fully understand if a currently successful product has a chance of also making it big in an emerging market, it is advisable to dissect it into its constituent parts and evaluate each in isolation.
