Bowie was a pioneering figure in music finance when, in 1997, he became the first rock star to “securitise” future profit on royalties from his back catalogue in exchange for a £37.5 million up front lump sum. He also got his face on the "Brixton Pound".
Bowie’s link to financing went beyond his personal dealing. The Brixton pound, the alternative currency issued for use in south London, used his face to illustrate its £10 note.
