With the stock market float of Metro Bank, the UK’s original challenger bank, less than a month away and IPO documents imminent, Vernon Hill has written a book with insights into Metro Bank’s model, operations and seemingly cult-like culture.
As a short addendum, it is worth noting that Hill’s book was the subject of a legal dispute between Hill and TD Bank, which bought Commerce Bank shortly after Hill was fired. TD Bank claimed that he had lifted parts of the Metro Bank book wholesale from an unpublished 2007 manuscript he had written for Commerce Bank. Hill claimed he owned the copyright on the manuscript. In 2015, a court in New Jersey found in TD’s favour, but declined to issue an injunction on the book or require Hill to compensate TD.
