The cyber thieves who pulled off one of the biggest robberies in history, when they raided the Bangladesh central bank in February, are using their successful blueprint to target the other 11,000 banks on SWIFT banking network.
The transfers totalled $951m but the thieves made off with only $81m — making it still one of the world’s top 10 bank thefts — sent in four batches to accounts in the Philippines after one transfer to Sri Lanka was questioned by a suspicious correspondent bank and the New York Federal Reserve decided for undisclosed reasons not to process the remaining 30 orders.
