Hong Kong trials digital yuan for retail and cross-border payments

It will allow retail transactions and cross-border payments for residents within the city while integrating China’s central bank digital currency (CBDC) into its financial system.

"The digital yuan has facilitated 1.8t yuan ($250m) in transactions recorded as of June 2023. Over 10m merchants across 17 provinces and cities in mainland China now accept the digital currency."
